I started as a Commercial photographer in London, then moved to Essex and took up wedding photography. After a few years working for another photographer, I decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and start my own business.
I have covered commercial, press, PR, wedding, portrait, stock and boudoir photography in my time. I did pretty well at all of them… except boudoir photography!
I’ve started this website with two aims in mind:
1.) To make money. Sorry, we all have to do it and I thought it would be great fun earning talking about a subject I love.
2.) To give honest and genuine advice about how to make money as a photographer and run a business. I will give you the low down on everything both the good and the bad.
My intention is to avoid talking too much about technique and whether you’re a good or a bad photographer… Photography is entirely subjective and what one person thinks is an AMAZING picture, another will find APPALLING!
I liken this to the fact that Van Gogh only ever sold 1 picture in his life… and that was to his brother. The majority of people who saw his images in his day thought they were amateurish and childlike. Nowadays every single painting he created fetches multi million price tags.
That’s not to say I don’t have opinions on photographic technique and what makes a ‘saleable’ image and whether images have good or bad lighting… but I’ll try not to dub an image ‘good’ or ‘bad’
On the whole, I hope I can help you by pointing out where I went wrong, what I did right and help you avoid the mistakes I made, when starting and growing my business.
Rather embarrassingly, virtually all of the images on this site are from stock libraries. I haven’t asked for permission from the majority of people for their images to be here and under new GDPR laws… Well, it was just better to go down the stock route. Ridiculous I know.
You are more than welcome to ping me a question and I’ll do my best to answer anything you send my way.
Most importantly I hope you enjoy your photographic journey as much as I have. I’ll be here to help you as much as I can.
